Dr. Mehra is a practicing pediatrician for more than 35 years with keen interest and passion for Development sector. He is a Founder and Executive Director of MAMTA-HIMC, under his leadership institution has grown into a pan – India and Region (SEA). He is a member of several Apex Committees at National and International forums.

As a committed health and development professional; he has a keen interest in advocacy, training, evaluation and research in the field of adolescent health and development with focus on RMNCH+A, SRHR, women’s & child health, HIV/AIDS & TB and Non- communicable diseases, with Gender and Rights as a cross-cutting principles. He has been part of Technical Steering Committee on Child and Adolescent Health and Development (CAH), WHO, Geneva (2003–05) and Strategic Technical Advisory Committee for HIV and AIDS department, WHO Geneva (2007-09). Also part of International Prevention Reference Group of UNAIDS (2010-11) and Member, Regional Expert Group on Pre-conception Care for SEARO, WHO (2013). He has been the convener and professional designate of Working Group on Gender, Adolescent, Youth and Children for National AIDS Control Programme, Phase – III (2006) and RKSK program for adolescents. He was also selected to be the Co-Chair of 3rd Asia Pacific Conference on Reproductive and Sexual Health and Rights (APCRSHR), (2009) held in Hyderabad, India.

Besides this, he has authored and edited various Research and working papers, reports, and books on adolescents and young people’s reproductive and sexual health and rights and HIV. Under his guidance, MAMTA-HIMC has moved to contributing at National and International platforms in different health and development issues. MAMTA-HIMC hosted the Global Alliance Practice Centre for Adolescent Key populations and Adolescents Living HIV, while already initiating a larger Global Centre for Adolescent health and development with focus on low resource settings.

IAAH Founder’s Award to Dr Sunil Mehra, in recognition of outstanding lifetime achievement in advancing the health of adolescents locally, regionally, and globally from the International Association for Adolescent Health 2017.
