Head of India Centre for Global R&D, ABB India Limited

GNV Subba Rao in his current capacity heads ABB’s Global R&D and Engineering outfit in India. This is ABB’s single largest R&D and Engineering presence across the globe. The ABB Group invests BUSD 1.5 annually on research and development around the world. He not only heads the R&D but ABB’s presence constitutes the entire value starting with research, development, engineering and service. This is done in close association with respective business unit. In addition GNV also heads the global business services center inaugurated recently in the country. He heads a research and engineering workforce of more than 2400 people and the largest group of control engineers as well as the largest HVDC engineering center for ABB outside Sweden. In a career spanning almost two decades with ABB, GNV has taken on multiple roles including local division in India. He has also been instrumental in powering growth of the drives business in the country. Under his leadership, ABB’s drives business in India grew ten times in so many years and tripled market share. During his stint of steering the engineering center for the automation division, productivity and engineering efficiency was enhanced by 20% in two years. GNV is an electrical and electronics graduate from UVCE Bengaluru and has been a key participant at various international and domestic research events and associations.
