Sweden in India

The Embassy of Sweden in New Delhi is responsible for strengthening contacts between Sweden and India within a range of areas in both the public and private sector. The Embassy is headed by the Ambassador Klas Molin who was appointed as the Ambassador of Sweden to India in September 2017. The Embassy is responsible for the Swedish Honorary Consulates in India (Kolkata, Chennai and Mumbai), Nepal (Kathmandu) and the Maldives (Malé).

The mission of the Embassy is to represent the Swedish Government in India and promote Swedish Indian relations. The Embassy undertakes a wide range of activities which aim to promote political, economics and cultural ties between Sweden and India. It also provides support to Swedish citizens in consular matters and issues visas and permits for Indian and third country national citizens.

The Embassy in India promotes trade and economic cooperation with particular focus on business promotion.

Swedish business have been present in India for over 110 years and today more than 180 companies are established here. The community now employs just under 200,000 people directly and more than 1,600,000 indirectly across the country. The 30 largest Swedish companies have invested more than USD 1.25 billion in the last three years and will invest another USD 1 billion in the coming two years.
